Professor Khincha graduated from the Bangalore University in 1966 and did his Masters and PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was a member of the faculty at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science for 42 years from 1969 to 2011, from where he retired recently.
At IISC, Professor Khincha was Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Chairman - All India Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, Division of Electrical Sciences, Founder Chief Executive - Society for Innovation and Development of IISC, Advisor for Technology enhanced Learning Program – NPTEL , Co-ordinator - Quality Improvement Program to name a few.
He has been responsible for developing and steering a novel experiment for the first time in the country on Faculty Entrepreneurship and Technology Licensing.
He has also been Visiting Scientist to the University of Calgary, Canada, Visiting Fellow to the University of Liverpool, UK under IBUC Scheme 1981, Senior Visiting Fellow to the National University of Singapore and Visiting Professor to EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland.
Professor Khincha was also the Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, one of the largest technical universities in the country during 2007-2010.
He was awarded the Life time Achievement Award by Systems Society of India (2010) and also Best Power Engineers Volunteer award by IEEE.
He has been a guide to PhD/MSc students and has over 200 international and national publications.
He has been actively involved in a number of consulting projects for electricity, utilities and industries concerning power system planning as well as analysis and design.
He has also participated in World Bank sponsored 5 day program on ICT policies and economic development at London, UK represented India- 2001, British Council sponsored 5 day program on IP practices and creation of Business from Science and Technology at Oxford UK- 2002.
