MUJ Students attended Symposium ASIDE

A symposium on Interior Design Education – ASIDE was organized by Institute of Indian Interior Designers. The aim of this curriculum conclave was to construct guidelines for Interior Design education and release a charter thereafter. This event was attended by Ar Sneh Singh & Ar Sonali Jain, associate members of IIID.

The students from Interior Design and Architecture Department namely, Anumita Roy, Ishika Agarwal, Harshita Surana, Muskan Lalwani, Yash Jain, Somvendra Kumawat, Arzoo Bano, Palak Agarwal, Shivani and Akshay volunteered for the sessions. They participated in discussions, workshops as well as various committees for smooth proceedings of the event.

There were eminent speakers invited from all over the world, a mix of both educators and practitioners to receive a broader perspective including Frazer MC Donald Hay, Geeta Narayanan, Skye Morisson, Dean D’Cruz, Arzoo Mistry, Tanuja Kanvinde, Prem Chandavarkar, Kees Spanzers, Jay Thakkar, Kaiwan Mehta and many more. The topics discussed in the sessions were:

  • Interior Design Pedagogy
  • Studio Models
  • Inter Disciplinary Approach
  • Research in Design Education
  • Profession and Academic Interface

The conclave threw light on how education can be a conversation to achieve knowledge. Panel discussions highlighted on how to build structured program by introducing new subjects and teaching methodologies as well as revising some of the pre-existing methods. The event was a good exposure on the techniques and working of various Universities in India and abroad; specifically, in the Interior Design program; helping us to improve the Learning outcomes of the course.
