Society and You (SAY) Club is organizing an awareness campaign on WASH - Women Sanitation and Hygiene by Anurag Chouhan, Founder Chairman – Humans for Humanities.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

He started his  journey at the age of 16 when he was in class 10th and have been working on various projects. One of those projects is WASH - Women Sanitation and Hygiene under which he is not just promoting  sanitation and hygiene amongst women but also educating them about the same since a large population of women dies every year in India due to menstrual issues. According to the stats - Only 12% of India's 355 million menstruating women use sanitary napkins. Over 88% of women resort to shocking alternatives like unsanitised cloth, ashes and husk sand. Incidents of Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) is 70% more common among these women. Inadequate menstrual protection makes adolescent girls (age group 12-18 years) miss 5 days of school in a month (50 days a year). Around 23% of these girls actually drop out of school after they started menstruating. The biggest barrier to using a sanitary napkin is affordability. Around 70% of women in India say their family can't afford to buy them. Countering to this major problem of India they started making hand made Sanitary Napkins from cotton cloth and have been distributing free of cost in urban slums as well as villages.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Workshops are held at various government schools and colleges with young girls to make them aware about the same by lady doctors and their volunteers. They also have been teaching women & girls how to make their own sanitary napkin which has also become a mode of earning for few women who make these napkins in bulk and sell it at very cheap prices in their surrounding households.

Your participation in the project will not just help them take it forward but also empower the women and prevent deaths of many innocent women around the country.
