Dr Sampath Kumar Padmanabha Jinka is Professor in the School of Design & Art, Manipal University Jaipur.
Dr Sampath started his career with Textile Engineering colleges in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra as a lecturer. In 1995, he moved to IIT Delhi to pursue his Doctoral work. The work was creating a braided structure using jute and coir yarns for applications in civil engineering department and was credited with Best Student Award by International Geosynthetics Society, Pennsylvania, USA. He then joined National Institute of Fashion Technology as lecturer in Hyderabad and worked for more than 7 years to the grade of Associate Professor. He then moved to the corporate sector to work in garment and fashion related companies and gain experience to set up his own company. Later, he moved to Bangalore to work in skill development sector. In a span of 3 years, he wrote around 45 modules in skill development for the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. He then worked in two more Institutes in Bangalore as Dean of Academics before joining Manipal University. He also completed his Masters in Business Administration in 2012 from SV University, Tirupati.
His research capabilities include; braiding, working using natural fibers like jute, banana and coir, geosynthetics and technical textiles, fashion garments any allied applications of textiles and garments. He has worked in about 30 handloom and handicraft related projects and has helped to register three crafts of Orissa under IPR. He is a qualified ISO auditor and qualified Assessor in skill development sectors of textiles, apparels and handmade fabrics. He has visited Germany along with weavers in exhibiting the dhurries of Warangal in Andhra Pradesh made from natural fibres.
He has academic interactions with IITs and many other Indian Institutions. He has guided/guiding number of Ph.D., Engineering, Science and Design students for their thesis/project courses registered at various universities. Dr Sampath has presented papers in more than 25 seminars/conferences and workshops apart from publishing in National and International Journals.
