PROGRAM DETAILS - MASTER OF PLANNING

OVERVIEW

The Master of Planning program at Manipal University Jaipur is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills required for effective planning and management of urban and regional development. The program is aimed at creating professionals who can address the complex and dynamic challenges of the built environment, and design innovative solutions for sustainable and inclusive development.

The program curriculum covers a range of topics related to urban and regional planning, including urban design, transportation planning, housing, infrastructure planning, environmental planning, heritage conservation, disaster management, and governance. Students will also be introduced to emerging issues such as climate change, smart cities, and digital technologies, and their impact on planning practices.

The program is structured to provide students with hands-on learning experiences, through field visits, case studies, and real-world projects. Students will also have opportunities to collaborate with experts in the field, including practitioners, policymakers, and researchers, and engage in interdisciplinary discussions and debates.

The program will equip graduates with the skills required for a range of careers in the public, private, and non-governmental sectors, including urban and regional planning, policy analysis, consulting, research, and advocacy. Graduates will also be prepared to pursue further research in planning and related fields.

OBJECTIVES

 

Upon completion of the Master of Planning program at Manipal University Jaipur, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles, theories, and practices of urban and regional planning, and their application in diverse contexts.
  2. Analyze the social, economic, environmental, and political factors that shape urban and regional development, and design innovative solutions that address the complex challenges of the built environment.
  3. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and apply them to practical planning issues, through case studies, real-world projects, and collaborative learning.
  4. Evaluate the impact of emerging issues such as climate change, digital technologies, and smart cities, on planning practices, and develop strategies to integrate them into planning processes.
  5. Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and communities, and engage in interdisciplinary discussions and debates.
  6. Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct, and adhere to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability, in planning practice.
  7. Develop leadership skills and a commitment to lifelong learning, and pursue further research and professional development in planning and related fields.

INFRASTRUCTURE

 

  • GIS Lab to provide students and faculty with opportunities to gain exposure to GIS systems and certification procedures.
  • Climatology Lab where the students have a feel of the climatic parameters as they affect human comfort
  • Computer Lab where students learn computer aided drafting, design and visualization of their design schemes
  • Model Making Lab comprising of Laser cutter, 3D Printer and Zodiac cutter aid the students in making study models.
  • Materials Museum, where students physically see latest materials and technologies of building construction.
  • Exhibition Hall, where the outstanding work of the students is displayed which creates a healthy competition amongst the students to improve their performance continuously.
  • Construction Yard where students undertake demonstration and hands on experience of construction techniques

ELIGIBILITY

  • Candidates with a regular bachelor degree (or equivalent) in the

60% marks at the Graduate (B.Arch, B.Plan & B.Tech- Civil) / Post-Graduate (Economics, Geography & Sociology) level + Gate/NET Score

Or

60% Marks at the Graduate (B.Arch, B.Plan & B.Tech- Civil) / Post-Graduate (Economics, Geography & Sociology) level + University level admission interview

  • GATE qualification will be preferred but not compulsory.

Curriculum & Scheme

The Master of Planning program at Manipal University Jaipur will be a two-year full-time program, comprising of four semesters.

The program will consist of a total of 28 courses, including 12 core courses, 6 elective courses, and 10 fieldwork, internship, and dissertation/thesis components.

Each semester will be of 16 weeks duration, including 14 weeks of teaching and 2 weeks of examinations.

The program will have a total of 92 credits, with each course carrying 3 to 4 credits.

The program will follow the AICTE guidelines for course content, teaching methods, and evaluation criteria, and will be reviewed and updated periodically based on industry feedback and emerging trends.
